| Ok guys, here's my first real blog. Im starting off kind of big, but I just put this up on myspace a few days ago and I thought I should share it with you guys.
When I was younger, about 14 and for no prticular reason, I picked up a guitar and taught myself how to play. After about a year of playing, I was good enough to start playing in one of the praise and worship bands at my church. Playing music was incredible. I don't believe I had ever had so much fun doing anything and knew at that point, that this was what I would be doing for the rest of my life; but for the purposes of this blog, that is irrelevant. When introduced to the ideal of Praise and Worship (and I DO mean ideal, not idea.), I was merely still a babe in Christ, struggling to free myself of my own limitations and learning to let GOD handle my burdens. I don't believe I was ever properly discipled in this area and therefore, over the years, developed the wrong attitude about true worship. While not necessarily a BAD attiude (though some may argue that the wrong attitude IS a bad attitude, in this respect.), it certainly was the wrong one. I was so dependent on the rush and the natural high that I got from playing music, that when I was ever in the congregation during worship I felt almost nothing or nothing at all. This dependence gradually trickled into the rest of my spiritual life and relationship with God and thus became the way: the tradition, if you will. At this time in my life I couldn't understand what the problem was. I had become addicted to a feeling, a fleeting emotion that created a mirage....the enemy does his work well, I must admitt. And to ignore that fact is death. Only recently in my spiritual growth have I realized that it is NOT a feeling that is necessary, but knowledge: Knowledge (or truth) and Faith. John 4:24 says, "God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in truth." This [knowlaedge/truth, and faith] drives us and help us to continue to grow in the Lord. Knowing....truly knowing that when you are praying, the Spirit of God Almighty is there and can hear evey word you say. And when you are worshiping, you are doing it specifically for the glory of God and He is listening to your praises, from the minescule to the monumental. |
